Our History
how it started
Haiti Children Project which has now grown to Next Generation Ministries has a rich history of spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ and serving marginalized people. The founder, Wade McGuinn, has been a short-term missioner for many years. Wade used his construction expertise and financial resources to serve as a short-term disaster relief missioner.
In 2003 while on a construction mission team in Jeremie, Haiti, he discovered a small group of orphaned children living in deplorable conditions with a single young man serving as the caregiver. After coming alongside and helping physically and financially over the years, Haiti Children Project was formed. The ministry built an orphanage that enriched and changed the lives of 40 children who otherwise were abandoned and had no hope or future. As nearly 20 years have passed, the ministry has been blessed to become much more here at home and in Haiti.

Wade McGuinn
Founder
In 2003, Wade McGuinn, who is the owner of McGuinn Homes, a construction management company in Lexington, South Carolina, embarked on a mission trip to Jeremie, Haiti with the United Methodist Volunteers in Mission. While on this trip, he discovered the biggest challenge of his life – the poverty was the worst he had ever witnessed. Wade had been on many overseas mission trips, to Cuba, Honduras, Vietnam, and Mexico but none of these trips compared to what he experienced in Haiti. This trip would start his life’s work, “to take care of the least of these”.
Janet McGuinn
Co-Founder and Board Member
Janet took her first trip to Haiti in April 2007 and felt called to help orphaned children. She served hand-in-hand with Wade as they became parents to children without parental support. Janet spent years managing the business side of the nonprofit and building relationships with students. She has taken many trips to Haiti. Now, she serves as student mentor and advisor to current staff. She is also an active board member. Our students love Mother Janet and ask about her often.
The Future
we are committed
The future is bright for Next Generation Ministries. We will continue to partner with additional, like-minded nonprofits as funding allows. We will multiply everything we do through wise investment for Kingdom Outcome.
Imagine seven people, all with different backgrounds, unified only by the love for Jesus entering into the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere.
Our recent trip consisted of this dynamic group who came together as one and provided new beds for over 60 orphans in 2 different orphanages, built and made operational running water in 2 different buildings, provided a complete interior makeover for one orphanage and conducted bible stories daily for the children in both locations. All in 4.5 days! Our students that live and go to school in Port-au-Prince joined us on the trip as well- they worked hard and taught the orphans a lesson: “Do not have an orphan attitude. We all came from your same condition, and by the grace of The Lord, we are now attending and succeeding in university.” Our team was tasked with simply finding the beauty of Haiti and her people and developing relationships that would help the future generations of each person that we encountered.
We were also extremely well-prepared and knew what to expect throughout the trip. We were also provided bibles in Haitian Creole to give out to people whom we felt that could benefit from them. I am including a photo sent to me after this trip with a caption from the director of one of the orphanages that we worked with.
